Public Holidays in Uganda are provided for by the Public Holiday Act. Section 3 of that law provides that an employer is required to pay an employee their full wages for the public holiday (even when they never worked on the public holiday) as if it were an normal working day.
Section 3(2) provides that if an employee works on a public holiday, then they are supposed to be paid, on top of their daily earnings, an amount not less than their daily earnings. This would mean that an employee who works on a public holiday should be paid at-least double their daily earnings.
